Rivers and Insects: Water Quality Bioindicators
A unique experience to discover the river from a scientific perspective and learn how to assess the health of a freshwater ecosystem through its smallest inhabitants. Participants will explore the river in search of aquatic insects and other invertebrates, discover their remarkable adaptations, and learn why these species are excellent indicators of water quality.
The activity begins with a short introductory presentation at Basecamps, followed by a walk to the Segre River, where the fieldwork takes place. Participants will collect, observe and identify the different species found and use them to assess the ecological status of the river using methods employed by biologists and environmental scientists.
The activity lasts approximately 2 hours and includes a 15-minute walk to the river and a 15-minute walk back to Basecamps.
